North Shore Animal League

On parent-teacher conference day, Niamh Monnery, our very own Mutt-i-grees ambassador organized a fundraiser selling self-designed buttons and t-shirts. The goal of the fundraiser was to increase awareness about the importance of supporting rescue animals and to raise money for the North Shore Animal League. NSAL is where Bentley, our MS comfort dog, was rescued from.

Throughout the day, Niamh was supported by her father and friends Haidyn, Laine, and Marielle. Additionally, Charlie and Sofia jumped in to help out! Their teamwork paid off and they sold out of t-shirts. Therefore, we have set up a page where people can order additional shirts from now through 2/21 (shirts will be delivered approximately two weeks after the fundraiser ends). Shirts are $17 and we need a minimum of 20 shirts sold to go into production. All proceeds will go to the North Shore Animal League.

Middle School Musical: Mary Poppins Jr.

The Middle School performed two matinees and two evening performances of Mary Poppins Jr. on January 30th and 31st. This endeavor highlights the collaborative nature of the Churchill Community and the strength of our students’ performing abilities. Despite illnesses and absences, middle schoolers rallied to present a most creative and engaging show. Bravo, Middle School! You were practically perfect in every way.

Anastasia Higginbotham Author Visit

On January 15th, we had a unique author visit and workshop for 7th and 8th grade students. Anastasia Higginbotham writes a series called "Ordinary Terrible Things". This series discusses hard to talk about subjects like racism, sex, death, and divorce. She focused this visit on her most recent book "Not My Idea: A Book About Whiteness". This book was written to help students, families, and educators discuss racism and how it affects all of our lives. Anastasia is not only an author and artist, she is also an activist. She gave our students an open space to speak about these topics, as well as ways we can be activists in our own communities. Following Anastasia’s presentation, she led the students in an artful workshop. Anastasia’s artwork is mostly collage and she showed our students how to create art from recycled collage materials.
